Who we are
Prose Audit (proseaudit.com) is operated by Paul Brooks, trading as Page1Publishing. Page1Publishing is a family of editorial tools for indie authors, which includes Story Audit (getstoryaudit.com) and Prose Audit (proseaudit.com). What data we collect
- Account information: Your email address and password (stored as a secure hash) when you create an account.
- Manuscript content: Text you upload or paste. Stored temporarily during processing and, if you have an account, securely in your account until you delete it.
- Voice DNA profile: The writing analysis profile generated from your voice sample, stored in your account to enable personalised auditing across sessions.
- Payment information: Processed securely by Stripe. We do not store card numbers or payment credentials.
- Usage data: Standard web analytics including pages visited and device type, used to improve the product.
- Email address: Used for audit completion notifications and, with your consent, product updates.
What we do not do
- We never use your manuscript to train AI models. This is a firm legal commitment. Your manuscript content is processed by the Anthropic Claude API solely to generate auditing suggestions and is not retained for training purposes under our usage agreement.
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not share your manuscript content with any third party other than the AI processing API described above.
- We do not use your writing to generate content for other users.
How we store your data
Your data is stored securely with row-level security so only you can access your own data. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
How long we keep your data
- Manuscripts uploaded by account holders are retained until you delete them or close your account.
- Manuscripts processed in free sample sessions (no account) are deleted automatically within 24 hours.
- Voice DNA profiles are retained as long as your account is active.
- Account data is deleted within 30 days of a closure request.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or request a portable copy of your data. Contact hello@page1publishing.com. We respond within 30 days.
Improving suggestion quality
Anonymised suggestion ratings (thumbs up / thumbs down on individual suggestions) may be used to improve Prose Audit's auditing quality. Your manuscript content is never used.

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management only. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are used.
