The service

Prose Audit (proseaudit.com) is a copy and line editing service for fiction authors, operated by Paul Brooks, trading as Page1Publishing. By using Prose Audit, you agree to these terms.

Your content

You retain full ownership of your manuscript and all content you upload. By uploading content, you grant Page1Publishing a limited licence to process it for the sole purpose of providing the editing service. This licence does not permit us to use your content for any other purpose, including training AI models, generating content for other users, or sharing with third parties other than the AI processing API used to generate editing suggestions.

Intellectual property

The editing suggestions, editorial letter, style sheet, prose report, and Voice DNA card generated by Prose Audit are provided for your use in editing your manuscript. The Prose Audit platform, software, design, and systems remain the intellectual property of Page1Publishing.

What Prose Audit provides and does not provide

Prose Audit provides automated copy and line editing suggestions. It does not provide legal or defamation advice; fact-checking for factual accuracy (the author's responsibility); sensitivity reading; a guarantee that the edited manuscript will be error-free; or developmental editing (available via Story Audit at getstoryaudit.com).

Prohibited use

You may not use Prose Audit to process content that is unlawful, defamatory, or that infringes the intellectual property of others. You may not attempt to circumvent rate limits or access controls.

Payments

One-time payments are processed by Stripe. Pro subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time via your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Limitation of liability

Prose Audit is provided "as is". Page1Publishing is not liable for any loss arising from the use of editing suggestions, including any decision to publish on the basis of the Publication Readiness Verdict. You remain the author and the sole decision-maker about your manuscript.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
